Q: Why Does My Wp Thyroid Or Nature
A: Nature-Throid and WP Thyroid are natural medications that use Thyroid USP, naturally derived thyroid hormones, as the active ingredient. Just like anything else from nature, batches of these medications will never be identical and may even differ in coloring, or speckling, and even in smell. These are only sensory differences and do not affect efficacy. Since WP Thyroid is uncoated and formulated with minimal pure ingredients, the tablets can change color by absorbing ambient humidity. If the tablets are stored in their original container and at room temperature 86° F with an ambient humidity of 10-65%, no discoloration occurs. However, exposed tablets outside of proper storage conditions still conform to USP specifications for both T4 and T3 potency and stability. You can find full Prescribing Information and ingredient lists for WP Thyroid and Nature-Throid on their respective pages. Please consult with your healthcare provider if you have any medical or health-related questions.
So What Do You Do Now If You Had Returned To Using Np Thyroid Since It Came Back Out Again
Still to this day for what appears to be the majority of hypothyroid patients, Armour desiccated thyroid is working . So is using synthetic T4 with synthetic T3. Examples of the two synthetics are Tirosint for T4, with Cytomel or Sigma Pharm for T3. Honestly, all the brands have worked.
BUT.we as patient learned that to make either work correctly, we have to have the following:1) The right amount of cortisol, otherwise we get hyper-like symptoms when raising. You can read this page to see clues that you might not have the right amount of cortisol. i.e. some levels being too low, others too high. All can cause hyperlike symptoms when raising a product with T3 in it. Its the results of pooling. 2) The right amount of iron levels, otherwise we get rising RT3 , an inactive hormone which can block us from achieving the right amount of T3. 3) Optimal free T4 and optimal free T3. Optimal is NOT midrange. Optimal is not below midrange. Optimal is not just slightly above midrange. Read the page on optimal.

Responses To How To Make Reformulated Armour And Naturethroid Work
Jeana, May I encourage you NOT to jump the gun! I think you are gun shy with all youve been through. First and foremost, NDT is not, I repeat NOT the same as the synthetics. That should be more than clear as you read and study. So you are doing YOURSELF a grave injustice in assuming prematurely, and in assuming period , that its going to be the same thing this time around. As for 15 mg is that in addition to your synthetic or alone? That is nothing!Your biggest challenge will be increasing the dosage until you get what you need. Next to that, ALWAYS and only be with a doctor who has your back not someone who is rigid and doing things by the book at your expense! Synthetics and NDT are two different worlds. Take hope and responsibility for your own health. If your doctor wont work with you ALL the way find another who will!
Ive been taking it since the first. Thankfully Im not shaking and blood pressure has remained low, but I feel awful! Im sure I dont have to comment on all my sxs. I pretty much have all of them. Living like this is so depressing! Im going to call my Dr tomorrow and ask if she can up my dose. I miss the person I once was. I can no longer fake it to make it in front of company. This is who I am right now and they either have to understand or not because Im too tired! Thank you for replying and Ill keep you all updated!
Its definitely not you nor are you crazy. Glad you found the STTM books. Patient experiences rock!
Armour Thyroid Vs Synthroid For Weight Loss
Many people with hypothyroidism have difficulties with weight loss.
Losing weight can often help bring thyroid hormone levels back to normal. This can be achieved with both Synthroid and Armour Thyroid.
As mentioned earlier, a study on 70 people saw greater weight loss in participants taking Armour Thyroid .
However, this was only one single study and these results have yet to be replicated.
Summary: Both Armour Thyroid and Synthroid promote weight loss, which can help bring hormone levels back to normal.

Is Np Thyroid Considered Natural Or Synthetic
NP thyroid is considered to be a natural thyroid medication because it is derived from animal thyroid glands.
The hormones contained in this medication were created by the thyroid gland of animals and not in a lab.
Natural thyroid medications should be differentiated from synthetic medications .
Just because NP thyroid is natural does not mean that it is superior to other forms of thyroid medications, however.
Some people do quite well on clean T4 only thyroid medications such as Tirosint, especially when combined with T3 only thyroid medications.
The benefit to using these medications separately is that you can easily titrate your T4 and T3 dose.
If you’ve tried all of the different types of natural thyroid medications and you still aren’t feeling well then you may want to give a cleaner T4 + T3 thyroid medication combination a try.
Conversion Of T4 To T3
The conversion of T4 to T3 takes place under the direction of an enzyme called Deiodinase. There are two types of this enzyme one inside the brain which is called Type 2 Deiodinase and the one inside the rest of the body is called Type 1 Deiodinase.
The conversion to T3 gets easily disrupted due to a variety of conditions, such as Hashimotos thyroiditis, stress, obesity, aging, diabetes, nutritional deficiencies and certain medications including beta-blockers and steroids.

How Long Will It Be Until Ndt Is Readily Available
What if you were taking these medications and previously doing well on them?
What does this mean for you in terms of how long you will have to wait to get them back in active stock?
Unfortunately, when mass recalls like this happen it tends to take quite a while for the stock to be replenished and for everyone to get back on their previous doses.
These sorts of recalls tend to create large shortages in many pharmacies, especially for other brands of NDT .
Lets say you were doing really well on 1.5 grains of Nature-throid and you had your symptoms under control.
You are now told that you can no longer get Nature-throid so you look for an alternative.
Because NP thyroid isnt available, you have to switch to Armour thyroid.
But you arent the only one.
There are people who were previously on NP thyroid, Nature-throid, and WP thyroid who are now suddenly all trying to switch to Armour thyroid.
This creates a huge demand for Armour thyroid and puts it at risk for going on backorder simply due to the demand.
And this also happens with various dosages of different brands of NDT as well.
Think of it like the toilet paper debacle of 2020.
Even though toiler paper companies were pumping out toiler paper like crazy, it still took them several months to actually catch up to the demand.
A similar thing may happen with other brands of NDT so be wary of that.

Effect Of Recall On Patients
Patients had been reporting that they were experiencing symptoms of taking a lower potency thyroid medication before the recall was issued. In online forums and blogs, patients reported that they were experiencing some return of hypothyroid symptoms. After the recall, the patients who were taking Nature Throid and WP Thyroid tried to refill prescriptions and were told that the product was recalled. They were then forced to find alternative thyroid medications. Since thyroid medications are usually taken for life, it is important for patients to maintain continuity in their treatment. The recent recalls and shortages of popular thyroid brands have led many patients to seek the services of a compounding pharmacy to make their thyroid medication.
Nature Throid Vs Armour Thyroid Vs Np Thyroid
As mentioned above, the active ingredient is the same in Nature Throid, NP Thyroid and Armour thyroid. It is called dessicated Thyroid, which comes from pigs and cattle. However, there are differences in the inactive ingredients between Armour Thyroid, Nature Throid and NP Thyroid. For this reason, some patients may not do as well when switched from Nature-Throid or NP Thyroid to Armour Thyroid.

A Pharmacists Review Of Medications For Hashimotos And Hypothyroidism
Medically reviewed and written by Izabella Wentz, PharmD, FASCP on October 30, 2020
2020 has been a crazy year. I know many of us have had some health set-backs .
Some of us may be struggling with more symptoms due to our thyroid hormones. Stressful times and infections can increase our need for thyroid hormones, as well as the co-factors we need to make those hormones work properly.
Furthermore, some of us have been affected by a recent recall of natural desiccated thyroid medications. This may have resulted in having unstable thyroid hormones and needing to switch to a different medication.
Due to the various thyroid medication recalls, I wanted to provide a comprehensive overview of the available medication options, and how you can be sure to get the best outcomes from using each of the medications.
For those with Hashimotos, optimizing thyroid hormones is one of the keys to feeling our best, while we work to remove the underlying triggers that caused and/or are worsening the autoimmune component of the condition.
The right thyroid hormone medication can reduce thyroid antibodies and slow down the progressive thyroid destruction, as well as provide the energy needed to continue to work towards ones health. Thyroid hormone medications can also reduce the size of thyroid goiters and nodules, as well as reduce the likelihood of thyroid cancer.

Choice No : Switch To Levothyroxine And Cytomel
Some patients prefer synthetic thyroid hormones. Synthetic T4 is available as Levothyroxine with the brand names of Synthroid, Levoxyl, Unithroid.
Synthetic T3 is available as Liothyronine with the brand name of Cytomel.
A combination of Levothyroxine and Liothyronine can be used as an alternative to Nature Throid or NP Thyroid or WP Thyroid.
The combination of Levothyroxine and Liothyronine works well to substitute for Nature-Throid or NP Thyroid or WP Thyroid as long the physician prescribes the correct amounts of these medications.
Often physicians prescribe too little of T3 and too much of T4 . And it does not work well. Then, the physician and the patient think that the combination of T4 and T3 does not work for them.

Levothyroxine Vs Natural Desiccated Thyroid: What Is Right For You
Lets take a quick trip back in history to the late 1800s. It was a time when hypothyroidism was, for some patients, a fatal and untreatable condition. Those who survived still lived a life of fatigue, depression, weight gain, and dulled thinking and concentration.
Thats why it was so groundbreaking when in 1981, Dr. George Redmayne Murray began using an extract from the thyroid glands of sheep to treat the most severe cases of hypothyroidism successfully. Dr. Murrays lifesaving discovery eventually evolved into natural desiccated thyroid drugs. NDT, made from the desiccated thyroid glands of pigs, is still in use today as one treatment option for hypothyroidism. In the United States, the NDT brands available include Armour Thyroid, Nature-throid, WP Thyroid, and NP Thyroid.
Levothyroxine didnt come on the scene until the middle of the twentieth century. This synthetic form of the thyroid hormone thyroxine was touted as the modern treatment for hypothyroidism, casting NDT as old-fashioned and out-of-date. We currently have several levothyroxine brands available in the US, including Synthroid, Levoxyl, Unithroid, and Euthyrox tablets several generic manufacturers of tablets and Tirosint gel capsules and Tirosint-SOL oral solution.
Ahead, a look at why some doctors dont support treatment with NDT.
Armour Thyroid Vs Synthroid: How To Choose Which Is Best For You
The first line of treatment for hypothyroidism should be Synthroid .
This is due to the possible side effects and lack of evidence for the use of either Armour Thyroid or combination therapy. Essentially, T3 given in medication makes regulating blood T3 levels difficult. As a result, acute or chronic side effects may occur.
Synthroid produces more consistent hormone levels and fewer side effects. For the majority of people, Synthroid will correct thyroid hormone levels and symptoms will resolve.
A minority of people may not find symptom relief with Synthroid. In this case, experimental therapy with a combination of synthetic T4 and T3 may be warranted under the supervision of an endocrinologist.
While there are anecdotal reports of Armour Thyroid producing superior results, theres a lack of evidence to support this. It appears that using synthetic T3 is more reliable than using Armour Thyroid.
It should be noted that hypothyroidism associated with thyroid surgery, cancer or pregnancy may require a different treatment plan. The information in this article mainly refers to idiopathic or autoimmune causes of hypothyroid such as Hashimotos disease.

What The Thyroid Gland Does
The thyroid gland produces T4 that travels to various tissues throughout the body. T4 then converts into the active T3 hormone. A normal amount of T4 will not produce a normal amount of T3 when the conversion process gets blocked. That is why some patients would benefit from a combination of T4 and T3.
The T4/t3 Thyroid Drug Controversy
As noted, the standard treatment for hypothyroidism is levothyroxine alone. The addition of T3 to the levothyroxine/T4-only treatmentor using DTEis controversial and the topic of ongoing research and discussion.
Once experts realized that T4 naturally converts to T3, there was a great deal of excitement about how modern levothyroxine was compared to DTE, which was considered old-fashioned. At that time, many healthcare providers switched patients over to the synthetic medication and never looked back.
Still, some of these patients complained after being switched to levothyroxine that their symptoms had worsened or couldn’t be resolved. This led to a number of the healthcare providers who had previously prescribed DTE for their patients putting some of them back on it.
DTE is prescribed far less often than levothyroxine. But frustrated patients who don’t feel well who are doing their research and talking to other people. As a result, they’re becoming increasingly aware that there are options beyond levothyroxine and that some people feel better on DTE.
