Burning mouth syndrome is a severe, painful condition characterized by burning sensations in the tongue, lips, palate , gums, inside of the cheeks and back of the mouth or throat. The feeling is often described as a scalding or tingling sensation. It is more common in women than in men and is particularly common around menopause. Below Is A Transcript Of The Video On Herbal Medicines For Thyroid Disorders:

I want to welcome everyone. This is Dr. Nikolas Hedberg and tonight were talking about herbal medicines for thyroid disorders. Lets go ahead and bring out that slide show.

Thank you everyone for coming. We just started doing these webinars a few months ago and Im going to be doing more and more of them. I think that these are great way to educate everyone on different topics.

Thyroid disorders, its a big topic. Approximately 28 million Americans have a thyroid issue so its something that we need to know about.

Im going to be opening it up for questions at the end of the webinar. For questions, you just type your question into the chat box. That really has been the best way to do questions because it allows the questions to be concise and I can answer them very quickly so Ill let you know when that is going to happen.

Ive been in practice for ten years now practicing functional medicine with a big focus on thyroid disorders.

I have published a book called The Complete Thyroid Health and Diet Guide.

Were in this digital age now where we can get a lot of information out to a lot of people very easily and very effectively.

Tonight Im going to talk about the best herbal medicines for thyroid disorders and the big three well talk about are what we call non-autoimmune hypothyroidism, Hashimotos thyroiditis and then Graves disease.

Youll see a little bit of overlap in some of these but all these herbs are highly effective.

All of these work really well for Graves.

How To Use Turmeric/curcumin

Buy Best Tea for Thyroid

Turmeric naturally has a low bioavailability, as it easily degrades and is eliminated within an hour after consumption.

Historically, to increase absorption, turmeric has been combined with black pepper to increase its bioavailability and enhance its healing properties. Combining curcumin with piperine, an alkaloid found in black pepper, extends the life of curcumin in the body, helping it to stick around longer.

Another way to boost the absorption of curcumin is to consume the turmeric root itself because natural oils found in turmeric root and turmeric powder can enhance the bioavailability of curcumin seven to eight fold. In Indian diets, turmeric is often dissolved and extracted into fat , which may increase its bioavailability.

My recommendation is to add more turmeric to your cooking , as well as a high-quality curcumin supplement.

Should I Avoid Green Tea

Green Tea is Good for Thyroid | Drink For Thyroid During Weight loss

Its not uncommon to come across websites that claim you should avoid green tea if you have some thyroid disorder or have to take thyroid hormone replacement. Studies that were carried out on this subject usually involved high doses and they primarily focused on rats.

In order to determine whether thyroid patients should avoid green tea, it is essential to conduct more studies on this topic.

At this point, there is no evidence that one cup, a moderate intake of green tea, could harm your thyroid and affect its function.

One would have to drink high doses of green tea every day to disrupt thyroid function.

Medical treatment guidelines do not prohibit you from consuming green tea if youre taking thyroid medication. T

he best thing to do is to consult your doctor. Based on your condition and severity of thyroid disorder, the physician will inform you whether its safe to drink green tea or not.

This occurs either by causing cell death directly or boosting your immune system so that your body is better able to fight-off cancer on its own.

Lemongrass tea is sometimes used as an adjuvant therapy during chemotherapy and radiation. It should only be used under the guidance of an oncologist.

Possible Side Effects Of Lemon Balm

Lemon balm is considered safe for short-term use. Side effects may include:

  • Headache
  • Agitation

The risk of side effects tends to increase with the size of the dose.

The long-term use or overuse of lemon balm is not recommended. High doses can potentially affect thyroid function by slowing the production of thyroid hormones, which control metabolism and other body functions. Stopping treatment suddenly after long-term use can also cause rebound anxiety .

Generally speaking, you should use lemon balm extracts or supplements for no more than four to six weeks.

Some people may develop a form of allergy known as contact dermatitis when using a lemon balm preparation on the skin. To be safe, apply a little to your forearm and wait for 24 hours to see if any redness, rash, or irritation develops. Serious allergic reactions are rare.

Lemon balm may slow blood clotting. If you are scheduled for surgery, stop using lemon balm for at least two weeks to avoid excessive bleeding.

Children, pregnant women, and nursing women should not use lemon balm extracts and supplements until more safety research is conducted.

Herbal Tea For Hyperthyroid

Thyroid Juice Remedy

Thyroid conditions are running rampant! It seems everyone is suffering from thyroid disease. Hypothyroid and Hashimotos are the most popular, but many people are also suffering from hyperthyroid and Graves, and they need support, too.

Below is one of my favorite herbal teas to help support someone that is suffering with high-stress symptoms of hyperthyroid.

Here are the ingredients and why they are effective:

Lemon Balm People with hyperthyroid often suffer with anxiety and heart palpitations. Lemon balm helps relax the body, heart and mind, and lowers blood pressure. Its my go-to herb for hyperthyroid and Graves.

In laboratory studies, it interfered with the binding of TSH to plasma membranes and inhibited the enzyme iodothyronine deiodinse in vitro. It also inhibits the receptor-binding and other biological activity of immunoglobulins in the blood of patients with Graves disease, a condition that causes hyperthyroidism

As you can see, this herb from the lamiaceae family is highly touted in reducing the effects of thyroid stimulating hormone. Itll help to chill your thyroid out.

Is Green Tea Safe For Hypothyroidism

Hyperthyroidism, Graveâs Disease Eased by Lemon Balm ...

Q: I have hypothyroidism, and have heard that green tea is not good for someone with that disease. Is that right? Apparently, it slows down the thyroid from working and it is already so sluggish. Sandi

A: Fluoride can displace iodine, an important nutrient required by the thyroid, interfering with its absorption. While this is problematic for someone with thyroid disease, depending on where you live, the fluoride in your municipal water supply is a much bigger issue than the fluoride in green tea, but here is some information for you:

  • The plant that tea is made from accumulates fluoride in its leaves over time, so the oldest leaves contain the most fluoride. White tea is made from younger leaves and buds and contains the least amount of fluoride. Green tea and black tea are made from older leaves and contain more fluoride than white tea.
  • Drinking one or two cups of green tea a day won’t do any harm, but to minimize any potential problems with iodine absorption, your best bet is to drink white tea made with bottled, distilled, or reverse osmosis water .
  • Goitrogenic foods, including soy products and mercury also interfere with iodine absorption and are more likely to pose a problem than drinking green tea.
