Natural Remedies For Hyperthyroidism

5 ways to treat your thyroid naturally | hypothyroidism

Hyperthyroidism occurs when too much thyroid hormone is produced and secreted into the bloodstream. This can cause the metabolism and heart rate to speed up, leading to diarrhea, fatigue, high blood pressure, and sleep problems.

Hyperthyroidism is commonly caused by Graves disease, throat cancer, or too much iodine. Modifying your diet by reducing iodine intake can help. Foods that are low in iodine include:;

  • Egg whites
  • Fresh fruit and unsalted nuts
  • Homemade bread without salt, eggs, or dairy
  • Maple syrup and honey
  • Oats and potatoes

Studies have shown that cruciferous vegetables have properties that can prevent the thyroid from using iodine. Cruciferous vegetables are leafy greens that belong to the cabbage family. These greens may be beneficial:

  • Broccoli and bamboo shoots
  • Brussels sprouts and bok choy
  • Cauliflower and kale
  • Collard greens, cassava, mustard, and rutabaga;

Low iron levels can compromise thyroid health. Other beneficial vitamins and minerals may include calcium, vitamin D, selenium, and zinc. Hyperthyroidism can reduce bone mass, but calcium and vitamin D can help to restore it. Selenium may help to deter cell damage. Finally, zinc is essential for converting food into energy. To get thyroid-friendly nutrients, supplement your diet with:;

  • Green leafy vegetables
  • Nuts, lentils, and dried beans
  • Red meat and poultry
  • Whole grains and seeds

How To Cure Hypothyroidism Permanently

Around 15 million Americans have hypothyroidism . However, up to 60% of those with a thyroid disorder are completely unaware of it.

Hypothyroidism symptoms include weight gain, memory loss, high blood pressure, and heart disease. Many doctors insist permanent hypothyroidism is incurable.

At Prime Health Denver, weve worked with patients to learn how to cure hypothyroidism permanently and naturally! When patients seek our help, we tailor an individual treatment plan that is both undisruptive to your bodys natural processes and unique to your individual needs.

Our Approach To Natural Thyroid Treatment

Many doctors begin hypothyroidism treatment with a check for low thyroid stimulating hormone levels. However, during our work with patients, weve found that doesnt give us a full picture of your thyroid.

When a patient comes to us with symptoms of hypothyroidism, the first thing we look for is Hashimotos disease. Hashimotos disease is an autoimmune condition that accounts for 90% of hypothyroidism cases.

Causes of Hashimotos are varied, but we administer blood tests, urine tests, and/or elimination diets to understand your unique diagnosis. Our experience has taught us that treating the root causes of Hashimotos is how to cure hypothyroidism permanently it also means each patient gets a tailored treatment plan, and all treatments dont work for all people.;

When identifying the cause of Hashimotos disease, we look at the following six risk factors:

  • Hormone imbalance If your hormone levels are imbalanced , this can trigger an underactive thyroid.
  • Food sensitivity Food allergens can cause a hormone imbalance or even hypothyroidism. Celiac disease has been linked with increased risk of autoimmune disease, such as Hashimotos. Other food sensitivities may be less obvious but may be just as significant.;
  • Infections Tick-borne infections and viral infections may lead to an underactive thyroid.
  • Other causes include thyroid cancer, hormone replacement therapy or birth control pills, and overtreatment of hyperthyroidism .

    Shrinking Nodules A Success Story

    Id like to share the success story of a client who was able to reverse her nodules with nutrition, supplements and treating Blastocystis hominis. Her thyroid antibodies are also now in the remission range . This 60 year old woman with asthma, Hashimotos and past exposure to Chernobyl had consecutive ultrasounds on an annual basis to monitor her thyroid nodule. As of 2018, this person still does not have any nodules on her thyroid ultrasound. She did, however, have a flare in asthma and thyroid antibodies in 2017 after having dairy. As a side note, I think the significant dairy reactivity may be due to the Chernobyl exposure and the radioactive toxins concentrated in the milk from cows in Eastern Europe. My theory is that this exposure made people highly sensitized to dairy proteins.

    Here are the results from her first test:

    11/5/10: First ultrasound

    FINDINGS: There is a 6 x 3 x 4 mm hypoechoic solid nodule in the right lobe with multiple small but discrete hyperechoic foci likely due to calcifications. There is a 2 x 4 x 2 mm partly calcified solid nodule in the left lobe that demonstrates shadowing.IMPRESSION: There are bilateral calcified thyroid nodules. The nodules measure under 1 cm in diameter. The nodules are nonspecific in appearance and results should be correlated with clinical and laboratory data. Follow up ultrasound needed in 12 months due to the calcifications.

    Home Remedies For Hypothyroidism

    • Eat a Balanced Natural Diet: A balanced diet is the prerequisite to help with the symptoms of hypothyroidism. An underactive thyroid diet must contain all necessary nutrients that improve total body functions and help combat the symptoms of hypothyroidism. Most importantly, the diet should be natural without processed, canned and preserved foods or ingredients. Hydrogenated oils, white flour and artificial colors and flavors must be eliminated from the diet. Organic food consumption is most advisable. A natural diet with whole grains, vegetables and fruits help boost the immune system and reduce effects of hypothyroidism.
    • Avoid Soy:Soy products and soybeans contain goitrogenic compounds that interfere with thyroid hormone levels in the body and make it worse for a person with hypothyroidism. Soy reduces thyroid production and causes hormonal imbalance in the body promoting the formation of goiters. This may aggravate the symptoms of hypothyroidis and cause a higher deficiency in levels of thyroid hormones.
    • Balanced Estrogen Levels in Women:Hypothyroidism in women can be due to raised estrogen levels in the body. Higher meat intake, dairy products and birth control pills may imbalance the hormone levels in the body and deplete the production of thyroid hormones. These must be avoided to maintain a healthy hormonal balance in the body.

    Many are symptomatic way before their TSH starts to show out of range. ;My TSH never actually went above 3.2. ;This was my experience.

    My body was shutting down.; I was tired all the time and put on 15 lbs in a 3 month span. ; My face and hands were habitually puffy. ;I didnt recognize myself in pictures or in the mirror anymore. ;My skin was dry no matter what I did.; I could feel my thyroid swollen and pulsing at different times.

    My fingernails started forming ridged lines a telltale sign that your thyroid is really starting to diminish, although destruction can start years prior.; I became sensitive to light, would feel cold at the drop of a hat, developed weird food allergies in my mid 30s, became disinterested in people and couldnt sleep through the night.; I even got shingles, another surefire sign that your immunity is low. ;After testing positive for inflammatory markers, every;endocrinologist I saw still did nothing.

    It didnt help that I was on a plane every month, disrupting what should have been me practicing normal sleeping and eating patterns.

    Again, I am not a doc but here is exactly what I did to bring my Hashimotos into remission.; Im going to repeat that it is very important to get a thyroid ultrasound in order to assess how far along thyroid tissue damage is.; If it is more than moderate damage, doing the following steps will help to a degree but you may need thyroid hormone to supplement these steps.

    The other disclaimer Im going to write is that Hashimotos is a result of years of system abuse whether from stress, diet and/or environment.; You must reset your body with a clean diet and a healthy environment regardless if the initial cause was poor diet or not. ;Popping prescribed medication is not always the answer. ;Many people have trouble comprehending that what you put into and on your body has a tremendous effect on immunity and overall health.; People are emotionally tied to their food and have been brainwashed for years that certain consumables are harmless and may actually be good for them.

    So here it is:

    My Guide To The Best Supplements For Hashimotos Disease

    The most important supplements for me were Vitamin D3, magnesium, B complex vitamins, Selenium and Zinc.; I also took a high quality probiotic for two months.; I felt the difference immediately after the supplements.;;;Youll want methylated;forms of your B Vitamins as some people dont process them due to a genetic factor that many of us with Hashimotos have called an MTHFR gene mutation.; It is important that you take these supplements at the right times of day with either water or food as recommended or in tandem with another vitamin for absorption.; If you are taking thyroid hormone, space your supplement consumption at least 2 hours away especially from iron, calcium and magnesium.

    Vitamin D deficiency is inextricably linked with autoimmune disease, even some cancers and a host of other issues.; My level was at 16 when I was diagnosed.; I got it to 80 after five months by taking 8,000 units of D3 drops everyday.;; Get your levels checked!

    Magnesium and B vitamin blood tests can be misleading.;Its complex biochemistry that I wont get into right now. ;The point is you may still need to take supplements for them even if your tests come back in range.; Youll probably read about people using a whole host of other supplements like glucosamine,;;LDN, iron, etc etc.; Ive listed the essential ones that I think every person with Hashimotos should take.; You can later determine what to add.

    How To Shrink Thyroid Nodules

    Medically reviewed and written by Izabella Wentz, PharmD, FASCP on October 4, 2018

    I recently had the pleasure of connecting with a lovely lady who was very concerned about her thyroid nodules. She was a new mom who had just given birth and found that the nodules she had on her thyroid had grown. She was planning on getting them biopsied and potentially removing her thyroid, and wanted to know what her options were for addressing this concern.

    I frequently receive these types of questions about thyroid nodules why they happen, and what to do about them. While I personally did not present with thyroid nodules, I have had a few clients and readers with Hashimotos and nodules, and was pleasantly surprised when they shrunk their nodules using my recommendations for Hashimotos. Dont you just love these kinds of surprises?

    Up to 50 percent of our population has thyroid nodules. Nodules are also more common in those with Hashimotos so chances are, if youre reading this article, you may have a nodule .

    This article will cover:

    • Not suspicious
    • Mildly, moderately, or highly suspicious

    5. Another method of diagnosis is to get a thyroid scan done. An isotope of radioactive iodine is injected into a vein in the arm to find nodules that produce an excess of thyroid hormone. You may find cold or hot nodules. Cold nodules are non functioning and appear as defects or holes in the scan. Hot nodules are almost always non-cancerous, while only some cold nodules are cancerous.

    High Quality Supplements Are Key

    If you have Hashimotos, you most likely have a permeable gut.; It it is unclear which comes first, intestinal permeability or autoimmune disease but they are highly correlated.; Even if you consume a healthy diet when you have an autoimmune disease, your body is not absorbing the nutrients it needs because its literally leaking out of your intestines. ;Hence the term leaky gut. ;You need to supplement. ;And all supplements are not created equal. But you should absolutely check that the supplements are gluten, dairy and soy free.; Many have fillers, which can make you feel worse. ;Probiotics should have at least 40-50 billion strains, some will require refrigeration. ;Check the label to see if refrigeration is required and whether the transporter ships with an ice pack.

    Thyroid Surgery And Treatment As Causes Of Hypothyroidism

    Thyroid treatment and surgery can lead to hypothyroidism.

    Several conditions such as hyperthyroidism, goiters, thyroid nodules, and thyroid cancer can be treated by partially or fully removing the thyroid gland. This may result in hypothyroidism.

    Radiation treatment of the thyroid can also lead to hypothyroidism. Radioactive iodine is a common treatment for hyperthyroidism. It works by destroying the cells of the thyroid gland and decreasing the production of T4.

    Radiation is also used to treat people with head and neck cancers, Hodgkins disease, and other lymphomas, which can lead to damage of the thyroid gland.

    The thyroid gland might be a small part of the body, but its anything but insignificant. In fact, its kind of a big deal. The thyroid, found in the middle of the lower neck, produces hormones that affect every cell in the body. These help the body use energy, regulate the production of protein, stay warm and keep the brain, heart, muscles, and other organs working as they should. If the thyroid produces too much or too little , it can create major problems.

    According to the American Thyroid Association:;

    • An estimated 20 million Americans have some form of thyroid disease.
    • Up to 60 percent of those with thyroid disease are unaware of their condition.
    • Women are five to eight times more likely than men to have thyroid problems.
    • Undiagnosed thyroid disease may put people at risk for certain serious conditions, such as cardiovascular diseases, osteoporosis, and infertility.

    Theres an intimate relationship with one of the main female hormones estrogen and thyroid. But first, lets look at the thyroid gland itself, and what some common thyroid issues are.

    Hypothyroidism underactive and tired out.

    Can Natural Thyroid Treatments Help Children With Thyroid Conditions

    How To Treat Hypothyroidism Naturally

    Although most of the content on this website is catered towards adults, many children suffer from thyroid conditions as well.; And while I definitely recommend that any child who is suspected of having a thyroid condition be seen by an endocrinologist, preferably one that deals with pediatric disorders, many of these children can benefit from following a natural thyroid treatment protocol.

    As you might have guessed, typically its not the same protocol that an adult will follow, as while there might be changes in the childs lifestyle factors, they usually arent nearly as extreme.; Of course this does depend on the individuals symptoms, age, as well as other factors. In addition, a child might require different supplements and/or herbs, as well as different dosages.

    Genetics vs. Lifestyle Factors

    While lifestyle factors are the primary reason why adults develop thyroid conditions, lifestyle factors arent as prominent of a cause when it comes to children.; Dont get me wrong, as many children also develop thyroid conditions due to lifestyle factors, but genetics also play a role, especially in young children.; Now to be completely honest, its difficult to confirm whether a childs thyroid condition is due to genetics or lifestyle factors.;
