Ways To Heal Your Thyroid Naturally
In todays fast-paced world, complaints of fatigue, low mood, weight gain, and digestive distress are the norm. We work longer hours, sleep less, and are continually exposed to stimulation via WIFI from mobile devices and laptops. Your brain and body are constantly assessing these stressful stimuli and making the necessary adjustments to cope with the increased demands of a busy job, family and juggling your social calendar.
The key player and master conductor of the brain is the hypothalamus, assessing the body and relaying information to all other organs and tissues in an attempt to maintain balance or homeostasis. Another key player in helping you adapt to stressful stimuli is your thyroid gland.
If you get infected with a virus, your thyroid gland ramps up your immune system. If youre stressed, your thyroid can increase or decrease your metabolism to compensate. Its a fine-tuned sensor that relays messages all across the body and if you are rundown, gaining weight, sensitive to cold weather, struggling with low mood, constipation, muscle aches, or have dry skin or brittle hair, then chances are your thyroid is over-worked.

Dr Axe’s Top 7 Remedies To Help Heal Thyroid Disease Naturally
Mon, 06/17/2019 – 13:55
Recently I had Dr. Josh Axe on my podcast to talk about natural remedies for Thyroid Disease and the segment was such a hit that I asked him to send over his top tips for this week’ s blog! 1. Avoid Iodine DeficiencyIts well known that iodine status is a key determinant of thyroid disorders. Iodine deficiency can cause hypothyroidism and goiters because the mineral helps to convert and release thyroid hormones. Thyroid disorders that are caused by low iodine levels can cause heart complications, sluggish metabolism, weight fluctuations and mood changes.
There are a few ways to avoid iodine deficiency, with the most important step being eating iodine-rich foods like seaweed, wild-caught cod, organic yogurt, raw milk and eggs. Iodine supplements are also available and when taken in low doses, can help to normalize the production of thyroid hormones. But only use iodine supplements under the care of your doctor and make sure you are being monitored for side effects. High doses of iodine can actually aggravate thyroid disorder symptoms.
2. Eat Foods High in Selenium, Zinc and B VitaminsTo improve symptoms of thyroid disease, make sure you are getting enough selenium, zinc and B vitamins in your diet. These nutrients are needed for proper thyroid function and will help to balance your thyroid hormone levels.

My Protocol Clean Up The Gut Fix The Endocrine System Everything Else Will Follow
Here are three articles I put together on diet. This is indicative of how my family eats every single day.
We start off with cranberry lemonade and a huge salad every morning. For lunch, we sometimes do a smoothie or we snack on some nuts and/or fruit or we just finish our massive 11-cup salads. For dinner, we always cook from scratch, which takes preperation and time, but it gets easier. Rice and beans, quinoa, lentils, millet, oatmeal, and amaranth are common staples for our cooked meals. We add lots of raw vegetables and herbs to our dinners as well, for instance, the rice and beans go great with chopped tomatoes and avocado, diced onions and garlic, and shredded turmeric and ginger. Eat raw herbs and cooked herbs together for maximum health benefits.
This is truly a lifestyle, not a diet, and its one we live every day. You may not need to go to this extreme to rid your body of disease, but I find that most who are dealing with chronic illness need to take it this far, at least for at least for a few months.
The cranberry lemonade helps keep the kidneys and liver working optimally. These organs typically get sluggish quickly when lots of Candida are killed. If salads are #1, this cranberry lemonade is #2, and supplements are a distant #3.
Sweet fruit should be severely limited, and for the very ill, avoided until the gut is working better. Grapefruit, cranberry, avocado, lime, and lemon do not fall under this category.
What Are Thyroid Hormones What Do They Do
The thyroid uses iodine, a mineral found in some foods and in iodized salt, to make its hormones. The two most important thyroid hormones are thyroxine and triiodothyronine . Thyroid stimulating hormone , which is produced by the pituitary gland, acts to stimulate hormone production by the thyroid gland.
The thyroid gland also makes the hormone calcitonin, which is involved in calcium metabolism and stimulating bone cells to add calcium to bone. The thyroid gland is controlled by the pituitary gland and hypothalamus. Diseases and conditions effect thyroid function, which causes thyroid problems.

What About Natural Treatments
There are plenty of natural solutions touted by well-meaning people on the internet. But are they trustworthy? The experts say no.
One study shows that nearly 45% of the patients believed alternative forms of medicine can be used for the treatment of hypothyroidism. Science tells us a different story. Prescription medication is usually the key to managing hypothyroidism everything else is either risky or complementary. Here are some treatments that are often marketed as hypothyroidism treatments, but are not backed by valid research.
Can I Develop Hyperthyroidism During Pregnancy
During early pregnancy, your body needs to produce more thyroid hormones than normal to help the baby develop. These hormones are particularly important for your babys brain and nervous system. Having thyroid hormone levels that are a little higher than normal is alright, but if your levels increase dramatically, your healthcare provider may need to form a treatment plan. High levels of thyroid hormones can impact not only you but also your baby.
It can be difficult to diagnose hyperthyroidism during pregnancy because your thyroid hormone levels naturally increase and the other symptoms of pregnancy mask signs of hyperthyroidism.
What To Eat If Youre Managing Hypothyroidism
When you research the best foods for hypothyroidism, youre not likely to come up with any surprising selections. There is no one food that will increase your thyroid hormone, but there are foods that a person with hypothyroidism should eat more of, Rizzo says.
The following are some foods that contain important vitamins and nutrients for hypothyroidism.

Foods That Heal The Thyroid
Fresh, raw, organic produce heals. Produce heals everything. Other than that, foods high in iodine and foods that are high in selenium are known to aid in thyroid function.
The thyroid gland requires iodine to function. Iodine taken by itself or ingested through fortified salt can be problematic. Good food sources include the usual: meat, seafood, yogurt, milk, and eggs, but there are vegan sources as well:
Apple Cider Vinegar For Thyroid
This fermented drink is known to provide a solution for almost every ailment. It is an anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial agent that houses several other properties, making it a potent solution to deal with several ailments.
Why does it work?
There are numerous publications and studies that have been conducted and are being conducted on the efficacy of apple cider vinegar for thyroid implications. However, the relation between hypothyroidism and apple cider vinegar is complex to understand.
It is to be noted that apple cider vinegar may not bear any direct effect on the thyroid implications. However, it does bear major implications on the symptoms caused by this disease.
It effectively helps in alleviating inflammation caused due to hypothyroidism, it helps in fighting the obesity that could be a direct implication of hyperthyroidism. Additionally, it also helps increase stomach absorption, thereby helping in the increased vitamin and mineral uptake by the stomach.
How to use?
- Set a cup of water to boil in a saucepan.
- Chop an inch of fresh and juicy ginger into pieces. Grind the slices of ginger to extract the ginger juice.
- Add a teaspoon each of the ginger juice and ginger bits to the water in the saucepan and boil for a few more minutes.

More About Avoiding Iodine
In addition to avoiding the above foods, its important to avoid additional iodine.
Iodine can be found in herbal supplements, even if its not noted on the label. Remember that even if a supplement is available over the counter, it can still have a harmful effect on your body.
Before taking any supplements, talk to your doctor.
When it comes to iodine, balance is essential. While excessive iodine can lead to hyperthyroidism, an iodine deficiency can cause hypothyroidism.
Dont take any iodine medication unless directed to do so by your physician.
Keep Your Adrenal Glands Healthy
Your adrenal glands and thyroid glands are entwined together in your endocrine system. According toDr. Amy Myers, adrenal gland distress has the ability to affect major metabolic processes, including the ones your thyroid is responsible for. As it so happens, the best way to keep your adrenal glands healthy is one of the ways to keep your thyroid health: Regularly get a good night’s sleep.

Eat The Correct Foods
One should be in a place to understand the comparison between thyroid function and nutrition. The thyroid gland solely depends on a balanced diet including selenium, vitamins, and iodine. With these nutrients readily available in the body, the thyroid gland will function adequately. When one of these essential nutrients is lacking, the thyroid will not operate as it should. The most effective way to incorporate all these nutrients is to cook food at home, as this is the only way to ensure one is consuming all of the essential nutrients needed to keep the thyroid glands functioning correctly.
Natural Treatment Options For Hyperthyroidism And Thyroid Wellness
Treatment of hyperthyroidism must accomplish two goals:
Conventional treatment for hyperthyroidism tries to address both of these but doesnt address the frequently underlying autoimmunity. Anti-thyroid medications such as methimazole or drugs like beta-blockers that reduce the potential heart damage of excess thyroid hormone are the first level of treatment for hyperthyroidism. While these medications can help reduce symptoms of hyperthyroidism, they do not significantly address the underlying cause for excess thyroid hormone.
Secondary conventional treatments, such as radioactive iodine therapy or thyroid surgery, permanently damage or remove the thyroid gland to permanently stop the production of thyroid hormones. This stops hyperthyroid symptoms and the excess circulating thyroid hormones. However, destruction of the thyroid gland leaves patients hypothyroid and needing T4 replacement therapy for life and still doesnt address the underlying autoimmunity.
The good news is there are natural remedies for hyperthyroidism that rival conventional treatments in their effectiveness and also have fewer risks, consequences, and side effects. They are also likely to address the underlying autoimmunity and other root causes of hyperthyroidism. Lets discuss.

Our Approach To Natural Thyroid Treatment
Many doctors begin hypothyroidism treatment with a check for low thyroid stimulating hormone levels. However, during our work with patients, weve found that doesnt give us a full picture of your thyroid.
When a patient comes to us with symptoms of hypothyroidism, the first thing we look for is Hashimotos disease. Hashimotos disease is an autoimmune condition that accounts for 90% of hypothyroidism cases.
Causes of Hashimotos are varied, but we administer blood tests, urine tests, and/or elimination diets to understand your unique diagnosis. Our experience has taught us that treating the root causes of Hashimotos is how to cure hypothyroidism permanently it also means each patient gets a tailored treatment plan, and all treatments dont work for all people.
When identifying the cause of Hashimotos disease, we look at the following six risk factors:
Other causes include thyroid cancer, hormone replacement therapy or birth control pills, and overtreatment of hyperthyroidism .

Limit Processed And Pre
One should also limit pre-packaged food and processed food from their daily diet, as processed items are known for adding high amounts of sugar or salt to add flavor to otherwise bland food. This increased sugar intake worsens potential thyroid problems. Whole foods that are not pre-packaged or processed will still include the majority of their nutrients, minerals, and vitamins. A general rule for those with thyroid issues to follow is to avoid white foods such as white rice, white bread, and white pasta, as these foods have likely been overly processed. The best food substitute for these foods are brown rice, whole grain pasta, and whole grain bread.
